Our "HARRIER" has been donated by the AVMATS CORP., located in St. Louis, MO and is a Hawker GR-1 that was used as the prototype for the production of USMC AV-8B "Harriers" for the United States Marine Corps.
It was manufactured in Surrey, England and was previously flown by the RNAF. The aircraft has a modified wing that was improved by the McDonnell Aircraft Co. to further increase the performance and lift capability requirements of the USMC. Also it has more weapons pylons and a more powerful motor for improved lift capability.
    Â
We currently have the wing and empennage assemblies (as you can see in the pictures) and are awaiting the fuselage and the Rolls-Royce Pegasus motor, which should be delivered within the next several months.
We also would welcome any donations to offset some of the acquisition
and reassembly expenses. We feel this aircraft holds a very historical position in the development of aviation history and we are fortunate in that ESAM is one of the very few museums worldwide to have an example of its kind for display!
