At 10 am, RPI Graduate, William H. Hathaway, will give an overview of the Hubble Space Telescope Project; show how his team operated the observatory; and present images from its extensive exploration of the universe. Mr. Hathaway has over 43 years of experience in operations of astronomical observations from January 1986 to retirement in 2023. As a short-term scheduler on the Science Planning and Scheduling Team for the orbiting Hubble Space Telescope (HST) he prepared weekly schedules of observations using the HST subject to the constraints of low-earth orbit, communication satellite contacts, Sun, Earth, Moon positions and the requirements of the astronomical community. Earlier in his career, he was a senior telescope Operator at the observatory of the earth orbiting International Ultraviolet Explorer (IUE).
